Couple killed in accident on I-70

(SIGURD) – A California couple were killed and their three children were injured in an automobile accident this morning on I-70 near Sigurd. A UHP report said that 39-year old, Stephanie McFarland of Carlsbad, CA. was driving a 2000 Ford Expedition eastbound, when she suddenly left the lanes of travel and went airborne into a cement structure underneath an overpass near the Sigurd exit. The report stated that she and her husband, 40-year old, Tod McFarland, remained in the vehicle and were killed instantly. Their two-year old son and five-year old daughter sustained minor injuries and were transported to the Sevier Valley Hospital but their seven-year old son was listed in critical condition and flown to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake. UHP Troopers said that excessive speed was the cause of the accident and asked that anyone who witnessed the accident, to call Utah Highway Patrol at 896-2780.
