Grasshoppers

(Manti) It’s another bad year for grasshoppers in the state, and Sanpete County is seeing more than its fair share. An effort is underway to stop the problem from spreading further. Land owners with large parcels that are infected can contact Matt Palmer the County Extension Agent and have the land qualified for state assistance. Once the land is qualified, owners can arrange to have it sprayed and the state will reimburse up to seventy-five percent of the cost. Those seeking land qualification will need to complete some paperwork, and provide a plat map of the land. Around forty-five thousand acres have already been qualified in the north end of the county, with about eight thousand acres in the Manti and Ephraim area.
