(BOULDER) – A wildfire started Thursday night in the Escalante Ranger District about seven miles north of Boulder. The fire has burned approximately 300 acres and is zero percent contained. Dry vegetation, high winds, high temperatures and low relative humidity in conjunction with drought conditions are contributing to extreme fire behavior. Seventy-foot flames have been observed and the fire is expected to grow. No structures are threatened, however, there is a power plant located five miles south of the fire. Timber and grazing management areas, fish streams and other wildlife and cultural resources are threatened as fire crews began tactical operations on scene. No roads have been closed in the area and there’s no report as to the cause of the fire.
