(RICHFIELD) – A Sevier County Sheriff’s truck completely burned to the ground this morning on I-70. The Richfield Fire Department was called to the underpass at Flat Canyon south of the turkey coops between Elsinore and Richfield at about 8:30am. The deputy driving the full-size 2007 Ford four-door truck said that smoke was coming out underneath the dash and then fire spread quickly throughout the vehicle. He was able to escape unharmed. Officials said the truck exploded due to firearms and ammunition in the truck. UHP and Richfield City Police shut down the westbound lanes of I-70 for about 20 minutes until the fire was out. Authorities said the truck was a total loss at an estimated damage of over $30,000. The Utah State Fire Marshall is investigating the fire.
