(CEDAR CITY) – The Dixie National Forest is extending the comment period on its Motorized Travel Plan until July 22. In late May 2008, Forest Supervisors released a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) and held six public information meetings about the project. The DEIS analyzes the effects of modifying the current motorized travel plan to ensure compliance with new regulations that prohibit cross-country travel. Forest Supervisor, Rob MacWhorter says the Motorized Travel Plan is one of the most important decisions the Forest will make in the near future and said they welcome broad public input about the alternatives being considered for their decision. They’ll conduct an additional meeting on July 10 at the Dixie National Forest Office in Cedar City from 5-7pm.
