KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Alex Gordon hit a seventh inning two-run homer and Zack Greinke amassed 10 strikeouts as the Kansas City Royals bested the Colorado Rockies, 7-3 Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium in interleague play. Despite their record of 35-43, Kansas City has feasted on their National League foes thus far on the season as they are 11-3 in interleague play, the best in the majors. The game took a scary turn in the second inning when umpire Brian O’Nora was hit in the head by the bat of Kansas City’s Miguel Olivo (who incidentally had a fourth inning RBI single which gave the Royals a 1-0 lead). O’Nora was later taken to St. Luke’s Hospital where he received further evaluation. Additionally, Mike Aviles was solid for the Royals as he amassed two hits and an RBI and has hit .352 since being promoted from the minors by Kansas City on May 29. The loss dropped the Rockies to 32-46 on the season, which has been a far cry since their berth in the World Series last season. In National League play Tuesday, Milwaukee edged Atlanta, 4-3, and in other interleague action, Boston surged past Arizona, 5-4, San Francisco handled Cleveland, 3-2, St. Louis doubled up Detroit, 8-4, Pittsburgh smoked the New York Yankees, 12-5, Toronto decimated Cincinnati, 14-1, the Los Angeles Angels torched Washington, 8-3, Seattle shellacked the New York Mets, 11-0, Tampa Bay stymied Florida, 6-4, Baltimore outlasted the Chicago Cubs, 7-5, Houston tripped up Texas, 4-3, Oakland snuck past Philadelphia, 5-2, the Chicago White Sox hammered the Los Angeles Dodgers, 6-1, and Minnesota gashed San Diego, 3-1.
