(RICHFIELD) – Sevier County crop producers are facing grasshopper and weevil infestations early in the season. USU Extension Agent, David Drake, said the problem isn’t widespread but the northern part of the county is seeing some problems. Drake said that if farmers see infestations, there are agricultural programs that can help get rid of the pests. He also said that the cutting of first crop hay is behind two weeks because of a dry spring and the crop yield has been reduced. Drake said that in spite of warmer weather, the local area is short on water because of cool weather a couple of weeks ago that slowed mountain snow melt.
