Angels Clip Reeling Phillies

PHILADELPHIA-Vladimir Guerrero hit a pair of solo home runs, Erick Aybar hit a tie-breaking eighth inning homer, and Joe Saunders amassed his 11th win of the season as the Los Angeles Angels bested the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-2 Saturday at Citizens Bank Park in interleague play. Although Philadelphia initially drafted Saunders (who has blossomed this season after netting only 15 career victories before this season), they never signed him to a contract. The loss dropped the Phillies to 42-34 on the season, although they are 3-8 since sweeping Atlanta earlier this month. Meanwhile, the win for Los Angeles improved them to 45-30 thus far this season. In National League play Saturday, Colorado trounced the New York Mets, 7-1, and in other interleague action, Cincinnati blanked the New York Yankees, 6-0, the Chicago Cubs overpowered the Chicago White Sox, 11-7, St. Louis smacked Boston, 9-3, Cleveland trashed the Los Angeles Dodgers, 7-2 in 11 innings, Tampa Bay edged Houston, 4-3, Atlanta snuck past Seattle, 5-4, Milwaukee outlasted Baltimore, 3-2, Pittsburgh doubled up Toronto, 6-3, Kansas City stymied San Francisco, 5-3, Minnesota smoked Arizona, 6-1, Texas shellacked Washington, 13-3, Florida tripped up Oakland, 6-4, and Detroit handled San Diego, 7-5.
