DENVER-Todd Helton smacked a three-run homer, Aaron Cook amassed his ninth win of the season and the Colorado Rockies blowtorched the San Francisco Giants, 10-5 Tuesday at Coors Field. Although the Rockies have been primarily disappointing after last season’s surge to the World Series, Cook has been one of the bright spots as he became the first Colorado pitcher to win nine games before the All-Star break since Shawn Chacon and Jason Jennings both did so in 2003. Additionally, Garrett Atkins blasted a two-run shot for the Rockies, while Omar Quintanilla had three hits for Colorado which netted its 600th victory at Coors Field. Since the park’s opening in 1995, the Rockies have posted the fifth best winning percentage in the National League. San Francisco was led by Jose Castillo, who belted three hits for the Giants in defeat. In other MLB action Tuesday, Baltimore bludgeoned Boston, 10-6, Cleveland blanked Minnesota, 1-0, Detroit stymied the Chicago White Sox, 6-4, Washington handled Pittsburgh, 7-6, Toronto pasted Seattle, 3-1, St. Louis hammered Cincinnati, 7-2, Arizona surged past the New York Mets, 9-5, Florida edged Philadelphia, 5-4, the Chicago Cubs doubled up Atlanta, 10-5, Houston smoked Milwaukee, 6-1, Texas snuck past Kansas City, 6-5, the Los Angeles Angels bested Tampa Bay, 6-1, the New York Yankees tripped up Oakland, 3-1, and the Los Angeles Dodgers shellacked San Diego, 7-2.
