Diamondbacks Hold Off Pirates With Productive 9th Inning

PITTSBURGH-Chris Snyder hit a ninth inning homer to break a 3-3 tie and threw out Luis Rivas of the Pittsburgh Pirates in their half of the inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks edged the Bucs, 4-3 Saturday at PNC Park. After the Diamondbacks built an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, the Pirates incrementally came back to tie things up before Snyder’s homer. The Diamondbacks improved to 34-28 with the win, while the Pirates fell to 29-33 in the loss. In other MLB action Saturday, the New York Yankees outgunned Kansas City, 12-11, Baltimore stymied Toronto, 9-5, Boston shellacked Seattle, 11-3, Detroit doubled up Cleveland, 8-4, the Los Angeles Dodgers waxed the Chicago Cubs, 7-3, Philadelphia torched Atlanta, 6-2, the Chicago White Sox decimated Minnesota, 11-2, St. Louis bludgeoned Houston, 8-4, San Francisco gashed Washington, 6-0, Florida surged past Cincinnati, 8-7, Tampa Bay handled Texas, 5-4, Colorado blasted Milwaukee, 7-2, the Los Angeles Angels pasted Oakland, 5-3, and San Diego snuck past the New York Mets, 2-1 in 10 innings.
